Research Assistant Opportunity: Assessing the Value of Urban Land in Kenya Using Satellite Imagery
Overview:
Cong Peng, Assistant Professor at the National School of Development and ISSCAD, Peking University, seeks research assistants to study land value in Africa using high-resolution satellite imagery. The project is a collaboration with Tanner Regan, Assistant Professor at George Washington University.
Responsibilities:
- Process satellite data, such as Landsat and nighttime light data.
- Build machine learning models and verify results.
- Communicate progress and report on a weekly basis.
Qualifications:
- Ability to work with Microsoft Planetary Computer or a strong willingness to learn.
- Background in statistics and familiarity with deep learning (e.g., ResNet) and machine learning models (e.g., Random Forest).
- Proficiency in Python (PyTorch or GeoPandas).
- Familiarity with GIS software, such as QGIS.
