Recruitment: Manxi Wu is looking to recruit 1-2 highly motivated PhD students at UC Berkeley (Systems Engineering PhD Program by default, EECS program is a possible option for extraordinary candidates), fully funded starting Fall 2026. Applicants should get in touch with Manxi Wu before submitting their applications.
The research directions include:
1. Game theory, learning in games, control with learning agents
2. LLM and its applications in optimization and learning
Doctoral research in the group will be methodology-focused (game theory, learning and optimization/control methods), with applications that involve data and case studies in urban and mobility systems.
PI Bio: Manxi Wu is an Assistant Professor in Civil & Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley. Her research develops tools in game theory, multi-agent learning, and mechanism design with applications in urban and mobility systems. Before joining Berkeley, she was on the faculty of Cornell ORIE and a postdoctoral researcher in Berkeley EECS/Simons. She holds a Ph.D. from MIT and a B.S. from Peking University.
Expected Qualifications:
– Undergraduate or masters in Math, EECS, Civil Engineering, Operations Research and other related areas.
– Solid mathematical skills, strong analytical abilities and the capacity to learn game theory, control theory, and optimization algorithms.
– Willingness to code and work with massive data sets.
– Good communication and collaboration skills, strong motivation and curiosity.
Contact: Students interested in applying should send Manxi Wu a short email at manxiwu@berkeley.edu with their CV and grade report.
