A new theoretical chemistry group at Brown University, led by Prof. Matthew Coley-O’Rourke, has open positions for new PhD students and postdocs! Matthew completed his PhD in 2023 at Caltech under the guidance of Prof. Garnet Chan, followed by 2 years of postdoctoral research at UC Berkeley with Prof. Eran Rabani. Research in his new group at Brown will primarily focus on 1) strongly correlated electronic structure in 2D quantum materials, and 2) long-timescale coherent quantum dynamics in open systems and nanomaterials. The group approaches these difficult problems by developing novel methods based on tensor network algorithms. Students and postdocs with interest and experience in these areas are encouraged to apply. Postdoc applicants with experience in quantum dynamics are especially encouraged to apply. Don’t hesitate to reach out to Matt (m_co@brown.edu) with any questions.
