Climate Change and African Countries

Job Description: We are seeking a research assistant to collaborate with Professor Yuhang Pan (Peking) and his coauthors, including Takanao Tanaka (UC Berkeley), Pak Hung Lam (Duke), and Fangyuan Peng (HKU).

Projects: The research focuses on investigating how temperature affects various measures of population well-being in African countries, where people are particularly vulnerable to extreme temperatures.

Responsibilities: The primary tasks include collecting data from African countries, writing descriptions of the data, performing descriptive analysis, and running regressions.

However, responsibilities are not limited to these tasks. The research assistant is required to report progress to the PI and coauthors on a weekly basis. 

The primary tasks include:

1. Collecting data from African countries and cleaning it using programming codes.

2. Matchingvariousdatasetsusinggeo-locatedvariables.

3. Providingfiguresandtablesandconductingpreliminaryanalyses.

Qualifications:

1. Strong research interest in social sciences, such as economics, political science, or

finance.

2. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Stata.

3. Fluency in English is required, as the project involves collaboration with authors from mainland China and other regions.

About the Candidates:

1. Candidates should be able to work at least 50% (20 hours per week), ideally 75-100% (30- 40 hours per week) during the winter break. Preference will be given to those who can continue working after the winter break with at least 50% effort.

2. Compensation and salary will be in accordance with standards at Peking U.

3. There are no restrictions on location.
