Project description

Supply chain design (SCD) addresses the strategic decisions of network structure reengineering and long-term resource deployment to support primary supply chain (SC) activities, which is critical for top management to align with corporate strategy. This thesis aims to foster the robustness of SC designs by investigating the following research opportunities:

·      Characterize and measure robustness under uncertainties in the context of SCD,

·      Integrating data analytics with simulation and optimization for data-driven decision-making,

·      Apply and validate the developed approaches in the context of an aeronautical SC.

This thesis will involve collaboration with the MIT Supply Chain Design Lab and Airbus Atlantic.

The Center of Excellence in Supply Chain Innovation and Transportation (CESIT) at Kedge aims at meeting the economic, environmental and societal challenges raised in the Supply Chain, by co-developing, with companies, collectivities, institutional and academic partners, the concepts, methods and innovative tools necessary for the organization and transformation of the supply chain. Our actions do impact academic research, the corporate world, society and education. CESIT experts are at the heart of news and research into supply chains on a national and international level. They are also regularly involved in the media to provide insight into the news through their expertise. They work, organize and participate in many seminars, and international conferences.

Conditions of employment

This PhD position is fully funded for a period of up to 4 years. Appointed PhD candidate is the employee of KEDGE Business School and will receive a salary of approx. EUR 1900 per month gross, including health care benefits. Following the 3-paper model, a PhD thesis at KEDGE consists of three related academic papers, which are ultimately submitted to high-quality academic journals. The PhD program offers extensive training in research methods. The PhD student furthermore is expected to teach on undergraduate and masters’ courses, which is normally undertaken in English. Training in pedagogy is also available.

Successful candidate is appointed on a full-time basis for a duration of up to four years. The PhD position is intended to start 1 September 2024.
