Panathinaikos Athens is determined to break with his recent past in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and return to its glory days. Panathinaikos won five of its six EuroLeague titles in the 2000s, more than any other club, but its last continental crown came in 2011 and the Greens have not made it to the Final Four since 2012. The club brought in head coach Ergin Ataman, as well as a good number of elite players to make sure it is competitive again as a first step to fill OAKA Altion with a sea of green, noisy fans.

BACKCOURT

Coach Ataman likes to play with several point guards and Panathinaikos signed three elite playmakers to give him plenty of options. Three-time EuroLeague champion Kostas Sloukas arrives right at the prime of his career from archrival Olympiacos Piraeus. A pass-first guard with elite clutch skills, Sloukas is a true floor general, able to make things happen for himself or his teammates. Luca Vildoza is a tall playmaker with unlimited range, a perfect fit for Coach Ataman's up-tempo game due to his high basketball IQ and ballhandling skill. Jerian Grant, the 2022-23 BKT EuroCup MVP, returns to the EuroLeague ready to showcase his one-on-one skills, poise and athleticism.

With so many generators ready to share the ball, Panathinaikos needs shooting specialists to diversify its offense. Kyle Guy arrives to pull the trigger from downtown, especially in crunch time. Marius Grigonis is equally dangerous from beyond the three-point arc and the foul line, but he has developed his game to be much more than a pure shooter. Panagiotis Kalaitzakis is a talented player always ready to go in transition, and his energy should help Panathinaikos at both ends. Dimitris Moraitis has a good chance to learn from the Greens's starting playmakers and fight for playing time during the season.

FRONTCOURT

Ioannis Papapetrou and Juancho Hernangomez are set to see most playing time at both forward positions. Papapetrou is back for a second stint with the Greens. He is an all-around player able to attack the rim, find advantages in the low post, and rebound well. Hernangomez is also very versatile due to his size, speed and ballhandling. He has a really high basketball IQ and knows how to read the defense to find the best way to score, either from three-point range or around the basket. Dinos Mitoglou is a very valuable addition due to his game knowledge, post skills, rebounding and effective mid-range shots. Neoklis Avdalas and Lefteris Mantzoukas should make the most out of their playing time to become more and more important in the team's rotation.

Mathias Lessort is another marquee addition at center, following a breakout season in which he was chosen to the 2022-23 All-EuroLeague First Team. Lessort was a dominant force in the paint, mainly because of his unmatched intensity and power. His connection with Panathinaikos fans should be special. Olek Balcerowski is an interesting addition, a mobile big man who can play above the rim, bury the long-distance shot and run the court like a small forward. Kostas Antetokoumpo remains one of the most athletic players on the continent, and elite prospect Alexandros Samontourov has been promoted to the team's first roster. He should see quality playing time very soon.

PLAYER TO WATCH

All eyes with be on Sloukas since the very beginning of the season, especially considering that Panathinaikos hosts Olympiacos in Round 1. Sloukas had a stellar role for Olympiacos in the last two seasons, coming off the bench in all but one game. He will probably have a similar role for the Greens, coming off the bench to make things happen. No other EuroLeague player has buried more critical shots in recent years, which makes Sloukas one of the most dangerous guards in competition history. His list of accomplishments says it all: nine Final Four appearances, seven EuroLeague Championship Games, three continental titles. Make no mistake: Sloukas is here to lead Panathinaikos to a new golden age.

OUTLOOK

Panathinaikos has all it takes to challenge for the EuroLeague Final Four: excellent point guards, reliable shooters, a lot of versatility, plenty of frontcourt power and a two-time EuroLeague winning coach running the show. Turning OAKA into an impenetrable fortress is its first goal, and Panathinaikos relies on its legion of fans to help in that process. With so many new players, it may take a while to see the Greens at their best but once Panathinaikos gets there, it should be a dangerous opponent able to beat anyone, anywhere.

There have been some big changes at FC Barcelona this summer, but a new-look squad led by first-year head coach Roger Grimau hopes to finally bring an end to the club's long wait to win the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague. The departures of tactician Saras Jasikevicius and 2022 EuroLeague MVP Nikola Mirotic dominated much of the chat around Barca this summer, but the team has made some smart acquisitions during the off-season, which has brought a sense of optimism to Palau Blaugrana.

BACKCOURT

Now in his second year since returning to Barca, following a six-year spell in the NBA, Tomas Satoransky is charged with orchestrating the team's offense. He should have tough competition for the starting role at point guard, though, as Rokas Jokubaitis continues to improve year on year and has often shown his ability to step up in the big moments.At the "two" spot, Nicolas Laprovittola is likely to get the nod as a starter, having played all 39 games in Barca's starting five last season. He now has a player breathing down his neck, however, following the arrival of the man they call Basque Mamba, Dario Brizuela, from Unicaja Malaga. He will make his EuroLeague debut this season. Oriol Pauli and youngster Michael Caicedo complete Barca's backcourt options.

FRONTCOURT

There is a Mirotic-shaped hole at Barca entering the new campaign, but another Nikola – Nikola Kalinic – could take his spot at the small forward position. He started 26 times out of a possible 38 last season, while Alex Abrines, who is another option at the "three", started on 10 occasions. Both offer different qualities for Coach Grimau.

One of the more fascinating signings of the summer anywhere in Europe saw Barca bring in the No. 2 overall pick from the 2014 NBA Draft, Jabari Parker. The American power forward lands in the EuroLeague for the first time in his career, and Barca fans will be hoping that he can make an immediate impact at Palau Blaugrana. Another addition at the "four" saw Joel Parra cross the Joventut Badalona-Barca divide by joining the two-time EuroLeague champion.  Oscar Da Silva will also be competing for game time with Parker and Parra.

At center, Barca is pretty stacked. The Blaugrana stole plenty of headlines by bringing in former Real Madrid player Willy Hernangomez, with the 29-year-old returning to Spain after a seven-year spell in the NBA. It is hard to imagine him not starting at Barca, but 2019 EuroLeague MVP Jan Vesely will certainly be keen to hold down his role as a starter as he enters his second year in Barcelona. Should Coach Grimau want a more athletic big with plenty of upside, the 19-year-old James Nnaji could be ready for a big leap if he is given a chance to shine.

PLAYER TO WATCH

Coming off a highly impressive World Cup campaign with the Spanish national team, Willy Hernangomez is now ready to show the EuroLeague what he is made of. The big man does have some experience of playing in Europe's premier club basketball competition, having played 17 games for Real Madrid across the 2012-13 and 2015-16 seasons, but he returns to Spain as a more complete player who could take the EuroLeague by storm.Hernangomez earned MVP honors as Spain won the EuroBasket title in 2022, while he's also won gold with La Roja at the 2019 FIBA World Cup and EuroBasket 2015. That winning mentality should serve him well at Barca, as the Hernangomez-led Blaugrana embark upon a new era under Coach Grimau.

OUTLOOK

Many people are expecting Barca to take a step back this year, following the exits of Coach Jasikevicius and Mirotic, but the Lithuanian tactician helped to build a winning mentality at Palau Blaugrana. Admittedly, Barca could not win its first EuroLeague title since 2010 under Coach Jasikevicius, but it did reach the Final Four in three successive years (2021, 2022, 2023). Now, Coach Grimau will hope to build on that, with a new Spanish core – Hernangomez, Brizuela, Parra and Abrines – set to lead a group that retains aims of winning the EuroLeague. It should be a fun season if you're a Barca fan, that's for sure.

Last season marked a memorable return to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague for Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade. Head coach Zeljko Obradovic's team overcame a 4-9 start to reach the playoffs, only to squander a 2-0 series lead and lose to eventual champion Real Madrid. The club's first EuroLeague campaign after eight years was also memorable for the fans who repeatedly packed Stark Arena in Belgrade, turning every home game into a celebration of basketball. This past summer, Partizan has built a roster that it hopes will be the foundation for even more success.

BACKCOURT

The go-to guy for Partizan will once again be All-EuroLeague guard Kevin Punter, who finished as the EuroLeague's seventh-best scorer, with 16.1 points per game last season, including 22.7 in the playoffs against Real Madrid. Punter came up clutch time and time again for Partizan, as did veteran swingman James Nunnally, who will be entering his fifth season with two different clubs under Coach Obradovic. What's unique about this backcourt with three weeks to go before the start of the season is that it lacks a career-long point guard.[图片]As it stands now, playmaking duties will be in the hands of Aleksa Avramovic, Ognjen Jaramaz and PJ Dozier. Both Jaramaz and Avramovic have been primarily scoring guards who turned into ball-handlers. 

Jaramaz, a die-hard, life-long Partizan fan, has returned to his native club after two seasons with FC Bayern. Avramovic, a stellar defender, will be in his third season with the team, over which time ha has grown into the playmaking role. 

Dozeir is a do-it-all guard who can score in bunches, but is also a defensive ace able to guard positions "one" through "four". Hard-charging small forward Mateusz Ponitka is no stranger to creating for his teammates, either, while Danilo Andjusic is a trusted sharpshooter off the bench who can change the dynamic of a game on any given night.

FRONTCOURT

Very much like its backcourt, Partizan's frontcourt exudes versatility. Under the basket, Zach Leday will continue to be a force for his fourth season in a Partizan uniform. Whether playing power forward or center, LeDay does it all at a high level. He will be mostly paired with Partizan's splashy summer signing, center Frank Kaminsky, who is known for his high basketball IQ and great shooting range. Young big man Alen Smailagic, who plays both frontcourt positions, plans to build on his rookie EuroLeague season and his 7.4 points on 66.7% three-point shooting in the playoffs.

Around these three, Partizan has youngsters with EuroLeague experience ready to contribute. 

The 22-year old small forward Uros Trifunovic started 11 games last season, and usually brings great energy on the court. 

Even-younger, 20-year old shooting threat Tristan Vukcevic will hope to get more chances after logging 13 appearances a season ago. Meanwhile, center Balsa Koprivica hopes to put an injury-plagued season behind him and return to his 2021-22 form, when he led the EuroCup in blocks and offensive rebounds per-40 minutes.PLAYER TO WATCH

Aleksa Avramovic missed the first 14 EuroLeague games last season with a broken right arm, and then broke his left hand in Game 3 of the playoffs against Real Madrid. In between, Avramovic with his never-stop motor, was one of the main protagonists in Partizan's season. What speaks about his impact more than 6.3 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game is the fact that Partizan had a 17-6 record in games that Avramovic played. Coming off a memorable World Cup where he harassed opposing playmakers with his relentless defense en route to Serbia winning the silver medal, this fan favorite is set to be a big impact player for Partizan this season.

OUTLOOK

After coming with one victory of reaching the Final Four a season ago, Partizan is not hiding its ambition to get there this time. The majority of the core players from last season has been kept in place for Coach Obradovic, and Partizan went out to hand-pick four additions who can fit right in. Partizan had a very slow start last season but still managed to overcome it. It will be key for this team to avoid digging itself another hole by getting its engines started early. Punter & co. certainly plan to do that with the help of their fans, who made every home game last season a must-see event. It will be no different at Stark Arena this season again, giving Partizan all the motivation it needs to take one step further.
